In the past, summer in the mountains was thought of as a period of walking and great ascents. Then someone also started with tennis and fishing. Therefore, cycling, golf and horse riding have been added. Today the range of sporting activities has expanded dramatically.
Some sports are practiced outdoors and depend on weather conditions. Others are practiced indoors, practically all year round.
Courmayeur allows you to do almost everything. And what cannot be done outdoors can be done in various facilities, including in particular the Courmayeur Sport Center.
Val Ferret: a paradise for golf, horse riding and fishing
Once sports for a few people, golf and horse riding are now very popular. For golf lovers, Courmayeur is one of the symbolic places of the entire Aosta Valley. Apart from the small training fields and the minigolf facilities found in various hamlets, the most important structure is the Golf Club Courmayeur et Grandes Jorasses. It is located in Val Ferret, 2 km beyond Planpincieux, nestled right at the foot of the Grandes Jorasses. Built in the 1930s and refurbished later, it is a beautiful 9-hole golf course. Val Ferret is also the ideal environment for horse riding. Some structures operate in Planpincieux and Prà Sec, a short distance from the Golf Club. The most important riding stable in the vicinity is located in Morgex, near the municipal sports field. Horse riding lessons and horse rides are organized there under the guidance of instructors of the Italian Federation. The associations Attacchi di Aosta and Cavallo e Natura di Saint Vincent organize tours of several days on horseback, with overnight stays. For example, the Mont Blanc tour on horseback (6 days, for experts). Val Ferret is also one of the favorite fishing grounds. A private fishing reserve is managed by Val Ferret Fishing Club in the upper section of the stream. Other fishing reserves in the vicinity of Courmayeur are in Pré-Saint-Didier, La Salle and at Lake Verney, near La Thuile. The Adventure Park of Pré-Saint-Didier
A new trend in recent years is that of “adventure parks”. They consist of adventurous equipped aerial routes, in which you have to try to go from one tree to another. The operation is possible thanks to suspended platforms, ladders, trunks, Tibetan bridges, “Tyrolean” crossings. All of this, of course, protected by harnesses, nets and safety ropes. In the Aosta Valley there are several, some not so far from Courmayeur: for example, in Villeneuve and Pila. But the most beautiful is just around the corner: the Adventure Park of Pré-Saint-Didier. Among its attractions it can also count on a “Tyrolean” passage suspended over the famous ravine of Pré-Saint-Didier. An exclusive emotion over 100 meters long! On the area there are routes of varying length and difficulty, some of which are also suitable for children. The equipment is made available on site. To face them, therefore, it is enough to have a good physical condition, a little courage and, above all, not to suffer from vertigo.Water and air sports in Courmayeur
Some sports have a high adrenaline rate in common. They are sports to be practiced in the air and water and all of them can be enjoyed in Courmayeur. The stretch of the Dora Baltea between Pré-Saint-Didier, Morgex and La Salle is ideal for rafting (descending the river aboard a rubber dinghy), kayaking and canoeing. 5 organizations operate there: Totem Adventure, Morgex Rafting, Rafting Mont Blanc, Rafting Adventure Center and Rafting Valle d’Aosta. Among their activities we find raft rides, hydrospeed, riverbug, canoe and kayak courses and canyoning trips. The mountain above Morgex and La Salle is also one of the hotspots for paragliding and hang gliding lovers. The starting point for flights is also the Pavillon, although due to the complexity and type of currents, it is suitable only for the most experienced. A well-known paragliding instructor lives in Entréves. At the Aosta airport, motor plane flights, gliding (gliding) and exciting balloon rides are organized.Driving a motorcycle around the Aosta Valley
Despite the ups and downs, the Aosta Valley is a corner of Italy also suitable for motorcycle enthusiasts. Courmayeur with the state road and the roads of the Ferret Valley and the Val Veny are a fun terrain to “brush” the curve. It is no coincidence that it was chosen as a venue for motorcycle rallies (eg Harley-Davidson in 2006). Courmayeur also serves as a base for exceptional motorcycle tours that reach locations in France and Switzerland. For example, the Courmayeur, Chamonix, Martigny, Aosta, Courmayeur tour, which passes through the Mont Blanc tunnel and the Gran San Bernardo pass. Or even the tour that touches Courmayeur, Megeve, Albertville, Moutiers, La Thuile, Courmayeur, which passes through the Mont Blanc tunnel and the Piccolo San Bernardo pass.
The strategic location of Hotel Aigle near the crossroads between Val Ferret, Val Veny, the state road to Aosta and the Mont Blanc tunnel, makes it the ideal solution for all summer sports enthusiasts. In fact, the departure of the shuttle bus for Val Ferret is just over 300 m on foot and allows you to reach the Val Ferret golf course, riding stables and some of the best fishing spots.
But our location is also ideal for rafting, as close as we are at the confluence of the two streams that come from Val Veny and Val Ferret.
The proximity to the highway entrance, the state road and the entrance to the Mont Blanc tunnel puts us in a privileged position both to reach the most famous places for air sports, and as a base for long tours in motorcycles in Valle d’Aosta, France and French Switzerland.
The staff of the Aigle Hotel is always available for those who need to rent or buy equipment, book lessons or, more simply, receive information.
